The Perfect Trench

Posted on April 25, 2017 by Christopher Noland in Blog

A trench coat should be a wardrobe staple. A good quality trench should last you for years and years. There is nothing as versatile as a good trench coat, and we can help you find the perfect coat for you!

Colors

The color of a trench really doesn’t matter. You need to choose a color that you like. If you like darker colors, pick a navy or black. If you want neutral choose a beige or brown. A trench coat is always a polished look, no matter the color you choose

Embellishment

One must-have on any trench is the epaulets. There is no purpose for these, but they look terrific and are expected on a classic trench coat.

Cut

A double-breasted cut is usually the norm for trench coats. It can give you a bulkier look, so if you want a leaner look you can choose a single-breasted style.

Lining

If you live in a climate that varies from hot to cold, look for a trench with a removable lining. The heavier lining is great in colder weather, but can be removed when the weather gets nicer. Any lining should look and feel great when you buy your trench.

Sleeves

Set-in sleeves are really nice on a trench. These slimmer sleeves fit well. Take care to find a sleeve-length that works for you. You don’t want a great-fitting coat with sleeves hanging down over your hands.

Belting

Any great trench coat should have a nice stitched belt. For an elegant look, choose a leather-covered buckle or a heavy metal one. If there are wrist belts on the sleeves, they should match the main belt, too.

Buttons

Buttons are an important detail for your trench coat. Go with sturdy buttons, nothing that looks cheap or flimsy. For luxury, look for an imitation bone or pearlesque button. These little details really pull together the look.
