You love getting that great color from the salon and how it looks when you walk out. Figuring out how to make that perfect color last is not as hard as you may think. Here are some ways to help you keep that new color you love last longer.

Start with Subtle Color

Take it easy on your hair when choosing a new color. Go for a subtle color change to protect your hair from being damaged. You will also need more frequent touch ups if you change your hair color to a completely new shade.

Use Sunscreen

You may not think about sunscreen where your hair is concerned, but your hair can really dry out in the sun. The sunshine feels nice, but it can make your color fade. Always wear a hat when you are out in the sun. You can also find products that have sunscreen built in.

 Don’t Wash

You don’t want squeaky clean hair when you go to the salon for hair coloring.  Your hair color will stay on better with some oils left in your hair. The last time you should wash your hair is 1 to 2 days before your coloring appointment.

Condition Well

Unlike shampooing, you should stop using conditioner 3 or 4 days before your hair appointment.  The last conditioning you should do is with a deep conditioner to get some moisture in your hair. This well prepare your hair to be colored.

Use the right products

You invest a lot in your hair color, so invest in hair products that are made for colored hair. These products will help your color stay vibrant and last.

Stay away from the heat

Hot water is bad for your hair, so use lukewarm water when you start shampooing again. Your color will last longer and there will be less breakage with cooler water.
