Velvet Style
Velvet items made a statement during the holidays, but velvet is still trending in fashion. The texture of velvet is so soft and lush, and is always reminiscent of royalty. Whether as an accent or a whole outfit, here are some great ways to incorporate velvet into your wardrobe.
A whole dress of velvet might be a bit much, but there are some dresses out there with sheer panel trims or some other plain fabric to break it up. A velvet skirt is a great addition to your wardrobe. Pick a rich color for the skirt. You can dress it up with some glitter in a blouse, or tone it down with a plain sweater or top. Velvet skirts are showing up in all different lengths, too, which adds to the flexibility of the piece.
A velvety shirt can be a nice piece as well. There are some patterned velvet shirts which look very chic. Pair a patterned top with a solid color pant or shirt. Keep jewelry minimal to have the focus on the shirt and not look too busy.
A throwback from the seventies, the black velvet choker is back. Most of the velvet chokers have a metal or jewel accent on them, and can be a lot of fun to accessorize with. Just experiment and have some fun with the choker look.
Velvet as a trim is popular, too. There are coats with velvet trim on the cuffs and collar. Jackets and blazers may have velvet trim, or even made completely of velvet. Think rich jewel tones like emerald and ruby for a fabulous style.
Boots are even coming in velvet options. From all velvet boots to just some trim around the boot, you will see lots of styles and options. From black to jewel colors, you can find some velvet boots that will add some kick to your shoe closet.
