Hair removal is not something we discuss all the time, but it is a grooming habit we want to address. Most methods of hair removal are not permanent, but there you do have options when choosing a hair removal method.
Shaving is the least effective method since it only removes hair at the skin level. It is inexpensive, but hair will start to grow back within a few days. While depilatory creams can be a little easier to use, they still only remove hair at the skin level or just below, so you get hair regrowth in a few days, also.
Waxing is painful, but can last for 3 to 6 weeks. The hairs have to be at least ¼ inch long for the wax to stick. When the wax is ripped off, the hairs come out with it. You can get at home wax kits for $50 or much less. Salon treatments can range from $20 to $80, depending on the area you want waxed.
One technique similar to waxing is sugaring. The gel or paste contains sugar and the hair is pulled out with it. There is not quite as much pain as waxing since the sugar paste does not stick to the skin like wax does. The costs are similar and you can even make your own concoction at home. Like waxing, this will last 3 to 6 weeks.
Laser removal is long lasting, if not completely permanent. The roots of the hairs are destroyed with light. Laser works best on those with darker hairs and lighter skin. Laser treatments usually need 6 to 12 sessions to completely work. You might also need touch up treatments every 6 to 12 months. Laser removal is costlier, starting around $200 even for home kits. The costs can go up to $1000 depending on the size of the area where you want the hair removed.
Electrolysis is considered permanent, but takes more sessions to complete. 15 to 30 sessions are normal. The face or bikini line would obviously take less treatments since those are small areas. There is a stinging sensation since this targets individual hairs. One 30 minute session can cost $40 to $60 dollars.
