Tips for Taking Care of Curly Hair
Many ladies would love to have naturally curly hair, but they don’t know how hard it can be to care for. Frizziness usually accompanies curly hair, but if you care for your curls properly, you can get rid of the frizz and enjoy your wavy or curly hair.
Curly hair is normally dry and dryness makes your hair frizzier and out of control. Keeping your curls hydrated is the key to calming the curls and having beautiful, smooth locks. Dry hair tends to flyaway in an attempt to get moisture from the air around you. Touching your hair often will also contribute to flyaway hair, so try to leave it alone once your hair is styled. Use smooth pillowcases when you sleep, such as sateen or satin. These types of pillowcases will reduce friction with your hair so you can wake up without the crazy hair.
Do not use shampoos with a lot of suds, since these contain sulfates. Any sulfates just strip the strands of your hair, causing more dryness. Make sure to gently shampoo your hair and never scrub it too vigorously. You don’t want to cause more damage.
Shampoo your hair when you first get in the shower, and let your conditioner stay on your head as you wash up. Comb your fingertips through your hair and then rinse out the conditioner. Your curls should loosen up and get detangled, too. Try to let the water do the rinsing and not touch your hair too much.
Terry Cloth towels is very rough on wavy or curly hair, since these towels tend to draw the hair inwards. Use a cloth made of microfiber instead. Don’t rub your head with the towel, but try to blot your hair dry. You can lightly scrunch up sections of your hair at a time while you are drying. The blotting motion will bring out you natural curls and waves as you dry your hair.
