If you are trying to pick the right gym, you may first think of the cost. This is an important factor, but take the time to research some of these other areas, too.
Find out the true costs, including startup or maintenance fees. Find out if you have to pay monthly, weekly, quarterly or on an annual basis. Do you have to sign a contract, and if so, how easy is it to cancel. Ask if you can get credit if you are sick or injured for a while, or even while you are on a long vacation.
You want to pick a gym that is easy to get to. Whether it is by your work, home or somewhere in between, make sure you don’t have to travel way out of your way to get there. If you don’t, you most likely won’t go workout often.
If the gym offers free tours (and most do) take advantage of this. Check out all of the facilities, including the showers and changing rooms. Look at the equipment and classes offered to make sure the gym you choose meets your fitness needs. Ask about group classes and the availability of personal trainers, if these are areas that interest you.
Many gyms offer free childcare. If this is a concern to you, make sure to ask about childcare options. While many gyms are free, some have a nominal charge and a few do not offer these services.
If you have a friend with a membership, see if you can tag along with a guest pass. Being able to actually go and work out at the gym will give you a good perspective and help make your decision.
Take a little time to do your research, and you will be able to pick the right gym for you.
