Giving your hair some extra moisture and attention is a good thing to do periodically. You can make and apply your own moisturizing hair masks at home. Your hair will thank you!
Dry or brittle hair means you will get breakage. Our hair naturally has a moisture content of between 10-12 percent. Most of us easily go below that range and end up with hair that is lacking moisture. By getting extra moisture you will be helping your hair’s flexibility and elasticity. Hair that is moisturized will also be softer and shinier.
First up is an olive oil and honey mask. Both olive oil and honey retain moisture, so this will help your hair. If you have an irritated scalp or dandruff, honey also helps to soothe the scalp, which is an added bonus. Olive oil is chock full of vitamin E, which your hair also needs to look great.
Mix together 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon honey and 3 drops of your favorite essential oil (optional.) Massage into your strands and your scalp. Leave this mask on for about an hour. Wearing a shower cap during this time will help keep the moisturizer locked in, so that is recommended. Remove the cap and wash normally.
The second mask is made with avocados. Avocado not only moisturizes hair, but it also strengthens your strands. This is especially helpful if you have fine hair, or hair that is extra dry. Avocado has fats that will be absorbed easily into your hair. The fats also will lock moisture in. You will find vitamins E, D, and A in the avocado as well which also helps make your hair stronger.
Mix 1 ripe avocado (mashing up), 1 tablespoon olive oil, and if you want extra conditioning you can add a tablespoon of honey. You want to massage this mixture all over your head and leave on for an hour or so. Again, wearing a shower cap helps keep the moisture in. Wash out as normal.
Give your hair some help beating dryness and enjoy luxurious and soft hair.
