We have talked about getting your beauty sleep before, but what if you find yourself having trouble falling asleep in the first place? We all need some help falling asleep at times, and we have some tips for you to try.
Exercise definitely helps us fall asleep better, but make sure not to exercise within 3 hours of going to bed. You don’t want adrenaline to keep you awake.
You probably stay away from caffeine, but drinking too much of any liquid is not good before bedtime. Alcohol interferes with our sleep patterns, but even drinking a lot of water before bedtime can make it harder to fall asleep.
Keep dinner light, but don’t be afraid to have a healthy snack before bedtime. Heavy meals will make it hard to fall asleep, but being hungry will also keep you from falling fast asleep.
Stay away from electronics within 1 hour of bedtime. It takes some willpower to power down your tablet, phone or laptop, but you will notice a difference. You need to give your brain time to relax and the stimulation from electronics will definitely keep your brain working and will impede your falling asleep.
Aromatherapy can help you fall asleep. Vanilla and lavender are soothing scents. There are pillow sprays available or use a diffuser with a few drops of your favorite oil. A diffuser also puts moisture in the air, which helps your breathing, too.
Light and noise can be detrimental to falling asleep. Some people need complete silence, and if that fits you then try ear plugs and an eye mask. If you need some sound to fall asleep, try a white noise machine.
Even if you tend to get cold, it is still better to keep your bedroom cooler. Many studies have shown that the cooler temps help you fall asleep. Just add an extra blanket to keep you warm in bed.
