Facials for Blemishes and Mild Acne
Facials are great for your skin, but did you know that a facial can help if you have blemishes or mild acne? Even if you have moderate to severe acne, your dermatologist may recommend some kind of facial maintenance to improve the health of your skin.
A facial always begins with a comprehensive skin cleansing. You can sometimes incorporate steam, masks or massages into the treatment. Special products may be used to reduce oil on the skin surface, and remove dead cells. Your esthetician will examine our skin and do an analysis to see what facial treatments would benefit you the most.
Depending on your skin, there may be a gentle exfoliating process next. An exfoliant is generally used next to gently remove the top layer of your skin. This unclogs pores and helps oil flow through the follicles, which also helps avoid breakouts.
If you have pimples or blackheads, an esthetician removes pore blockages (also known as comedones). When the pores are cleared of debris and excess oil, blemishes are less likely to form. Opening the pores can reduce the severity and frequency of breakouts. A deep-pore cleansing facial can even prevent those awful breakouts.
The last part of the facial experience is extraction. This is actually physically unclogging the pore and forces bacteria up through the clogged follicle. This has to be done carefully and gently, so you always want an expertly trained individual to administer this treatment.
While a facial cannot prevent new acne from forming, it can definitely reduce the chances of your acne getting infected. Getting a regular facial, every four to six weeks, is highly recommended if you want to keep your complexion clear and acne-free. Make sure you don’t get a facial if you are taking strong prescription medicines, and check with your dermatologist first.
