Different Types of Massage

Swedish Massage – The main purpose of the Swedish Massage is to relax the entire body. The muscles are rubbed with long, smooth strokes in the direction of the heart. Many studies have shown that Swedish Massage reduces stress hormones in the body. This massage type also increases blood circulation and actually increases oxygen levels in the bloodstream. The Swedish Massage is a great way to get started with massages.
Deep Tissue Massage – This is similar to the Swedish method, but if you have chronic or troublesome muscle tension, this massage will be more beneficial. Both the top and deeper layers of muscle are manipulated, which releases trigger points and tension. The movements are slower than the Swedish massage, and have deeper pressure. Circulation will be increased and your range of movement should be improved as well.
Neck and Shoulder Massage – More tension is accumulated in our necks and shoulders than any other part of the body. This massage uses firmness to target these specific areas of pressure. Working on a computer all day or not watching your posture can definitely lead to neck pain that would benefit from a massage.
Hot Stone Massage – The massage therapist uses heated, smooth stones as an extension of their hands, or places the stones directly on the body. The heat can help warm up your tightened muscles, and is very relaxing. Since the stones and heat give your muscles a head start in relaxing, your massage therapist can get deeper and be more effective in working your muscles.
