Choosing the Right Manicure!
You may not realize how many kinds of manicures and types of nails there are until you go to the salon to have your nails done. We can’t cover all of these, but the main types are Acrylic and Gel, which we will talk about.
Both of these nail types are applied over your existing nail and are ‘fake’ nails. If you really like having long nails, these are good choices for you. You can have the look of extending your natural nails and shaped to look natural. Your nails will be strong after having this done, but over time you can get nail bed damage, so always have your nail health checked before having your Mani.
There are 3 steps to applying Gel nails.
1. A base coat is applied
2. A color is applied
3. A top coat is applied. All 3 of these coats have to be hardened under an ultraviolet light for a few minutes.
Gel nails will last a few weeks and do look natural. Gel nails are quicker to cure and are very flexible. Gels don’t have the fumes like acrylics do and are easier to have removed. While Gel nails look more like your real nails, you still get the strength you would from Acrylic nails.
You do have to go to the salon if you need to repair any breakage, since it is almost impossible to fix at home. Gel nails last longer, but have a higher price. Don’t use gel nails all the time, since you can get nail damage after removing too many times.
A protective, hard layer over your own nails is created when you use Acrylics. You add your nail polish after the application since acrylics dry clear. You can generally fix and nail breaks at home with acrylic nails, and they are easy to take off.
Acrylic nails do have a few negatives such as nail damage, use of chemicals and nails that are not always as natural looking as gels.
