Choosing the Right Eye Shadow Color
You want your eye shadow color to really bring out the best in your eyes, but what color should you really choose? Opposites in color (like in a decorating color wheel), really complement each other. You don’t have to go totally opposite, but it gives you a good starting point when thinking about the eye colors you want to use.
If you have blue eyes, think orange. Okay, well maybe not tangerine orange, but think of different hues of this bright color. Peaches and lighter pinks really pop with blue eyes. These are great daytime looks. Neutral brown tones can also work well for an everyday look. If you want a more intense look for evening, try charcoals, silvers and greys. Even black can look spectacular with blue eyes, but you really have to find the perfect black shade to go with your particular shade of blue eyes.
Green eyes usually stand out and get lots of attention, since they are not as common as other eye colors. Since red is the opposite of green, you want to choose shadows that have a pinkish undertone to them. A light, baby pink is very attractive with green eyes. For a more dramatic evening look, think purples, especially a nice lilac shade or even a shimmery purple. Purple eyeliner can also be a great look for you lucky ladies that have the emerald eyes.
Brown-eyed gals have a lot of options when it comes to eye shadow colors. The opposites of brown are in the blue-purple family of colors. Think plum, eggplant and deep purple. Light pink will usually not work, but a purplish-pink, such as fuchsia, can be a fun color to try. For a neutral look, you can still choose a color in the brown family. Just choose a brown shade that is either much lighter or darker than your eye color. By doing this, the color will not overshadow your eyes and will add depth.
Have fun choosing your eye shadow. Start off in the right color family to complement your eye color and you will be amazed at how great you will look.
